Transcription that never uploads

Most transcription tools work by sending your audio to their servers. If your recordings contain client matters, patient information, personnel discussions or unreleased work, that upload is the problem — not the transcript.

5cut records and transcribes on the iPhone itself. There is no 5cut server to send anything to, no account to create, and no third-party transcription service in the path. The recording stays on the device it was made on.

Who this is for

Legal and professional services

Client interviews and case discussions where uploading audio to a third-party processor would need its own justification.

Healthcare and research

Interviews and consultations involving patient or subject data, where the simplest compliant answer is that the audio never left the device.

HR, works councils and internal investigations

Conversations that cannot be routed through an external service, regardless of that service's own assurances.

Teams under a no-cloud-upload policy

Organisations whose security policy prohibits uploading internal discussions to external SaaS, which rules out most transcription tools by default.

What it does

Why the claim is checkable

"On-device" is easy to assert. Two things make it verifiable here:

Version 1.2.4 removed the last code path that could route audio to a speech server for languages without on-device support. The full technical detail is in the security summary.

Procurement

No data processing agreement is required, because no data is processed on your behalf — there is no system that could receive it. The security summary is written to answer a standard vendor questionnaire, and states plainly what 5cut does not have as well as what it does.

Being straight about the size of this.

5cut is an independent app, not an enterprise platform. There is no admin console, no SSO and no audit log, because there is no account system. Deployment and control run through Apple Business Manager and your existing MDM. If you need central policy enforcement inside the app, 5cut is not the right tool and we would rather say so now.

Deployment and licensing

5cut can be deployed to managed devices through Apple Business Manager and your MDM. Apple does not allow in-app purchases to be bought in volume, so for a team-wide licence the route is a custom build with the paid features already enabled, distributed privately to your organisation. Get in touch and we will walk through it.
